St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation gets donation from MassMutual - MassMutual continues support of breast cancer awareness and makes underwriting changes for breast cancer survivorsPublished 11/9/2011

The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation of the St. Joseph’s Breast Care Center will receive $1,000.00 as part of an innovative breast cancer awareness campaign from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) in the name of Melissa Edelman of Wealth Concepts, LLC, a general agency of MassMutual.

"It gives me great satisfaction to be able to help local residents battling breast cancer and the agencies that serve them will benefit from our donation and commitment to the cause," said Edelman of Denver.

Building on a long-standing commitment to helping people before, during and after a cancer diagnosis, MassMutual conducted a comprehensive review of recent medical research including changes to the official staging system for breast cancer and made a series of revisions to its life insurance underwriting guidelines that have resulted in more favorable ratings for some breast-cancer-survivor applicants.

This year marks MassMutual’s seventh consecutive year of its annual breast cancer awareness campaign. As part of the company’s efforts, each time a financial professional affiliated with MassMutual conducts a "Pearls of Wisdom®" financial education seminar with 25 or more people in attendance, MassMutual will contribute $500 to $1,000 to a local cancer-related organization.

Melissa Edelman, whose firm is based in Denver, CO, recently conducted one of these seminars and as a result, made a charitable contribution to St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

In addition, MassMutual CEO and President Roger Crandall is a member of the ‘CEOs against Cancer’ initiative with the American Cancer Society. The company is also a recipient of the CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ accreditation, which recognizes MassMutual’s commitment to reducing the risk of cancer for employees and their families by promoting healthy lifestyle choices, encouraging early detection through cancer screenings, and ensuring access to quality treatment.
