ASK VICKI- I used to go to the gym five or 6 times per week but my job is so stressful, now I drink all most every day and skip the gym.Published 10/12/2010

Q. I used to go to the gym five or 6 times per week but my job is so stressful, now I drink all most every day and skip the gym. My girlfriend thinks I have a problem and she nags me. I really don’t think I have a problem but she wanted your opinion.

A. Drinking is easier than going to the gym and doesn’t require nearly as much energy but stress relief is only an illusion. Alcohol is a depressant that leaves you feeling less stressed but the stress really doesn’t go anywhere.
Friends and family members often notice problems in our behavior before we do. AND they are usually right. It is very difficult to have a meaningful relationship with anyone if alcohol insidiously replaces those relationships. You stand to lose alot if you don’t wake up.
Recently I had a client tell me that he too had replaced the gym with alcohol. He said he only had four drinks in the evening but his wife said his “drinking glass” was the size of my 32 oz. Sonic cup!
Hopefully you will call a counselor and get some alcohol education before your too are using 32 oz. Sonic cups.
