ASK VICKI -I've become my husband's human alarm clockPublished 7/30/2010

Am I codependent because I've become my husband's human alarm clock and I hate it?
Yes. The fact that you hate it says you've been doing it way too long. If you want to slowly change your behavior you could begin by telling your husband you will wake him up one time. If he doesn't get up, lets hope he set his alarm clock.
Or you could tell him that you will no longer arrange your schedule around his wake up time. Tell him to set his alarm and life your life.
Unfortunately we can reinforce behaviors in other people that turn out to be a nightmare for ourselves. Don't be like the woman whose husband laid out her clothes everyday for 14 years. She was in treatment stating she thought of getting a gun and killing him because she wanted to pick out her own clothes. Her resentments had been festering for11 years. Now she felt hatred and wanted him dead.
