Exempla breaks ground on outpatient medical facilityPublished 6/12/2006

Exempla Lutheran Medical Center (ELMC) and Lauth Healthcare, of Lauth Property Group, have announced that they have broken ground on a new outpatient medical facility that will help meet the growing need for high quality health care in the southwest Denver area.

When complete, the building will overlook C-470 near the Bowles Avenue interchange in Littleton, Colo., and will be called "Lutheran Medical Center - Southwest."

The groundbreaking was marked with a special donation from ELMC to Jeffco Action Center. Mag Strittmatter, Executive Director of Jeffco Action Center, and Dave Auburn, Jefferson County Commissioner of District 3, accepted the donation to JAC, an organization which is committed to providing essential services to the people in Jefferson County who are in danger of becoming homeless, or attempting to move out of homelessness.

"This donation is a small reminder of how ELMC is dedicated to its community and answering its needs," said Bob Malte, ELMC president and CEO.

"As construction begins, we move closer to answering the Southwest’s need for health care that is nearer to home and more outpatient-oriented. Lutheran Southwest is fulfilling health care needs, just as Exempla Lutheran has done for 100 years."

The planned services at Lutheran Southwest include:

* Urgent care

* Primary care practices

* Women’s mammography and breast care

* Diagnostic services including imaging and cardiology testing

* Specialty services such as cardiology, cancer treatment, orthopedics, pediatric, hand, and gastrointestinal care

* Outpatient surgery

"We are proud to break ground on this monumental project for southwest Denver," said Austin Lehr Western Regional Partner, Lauth.

"Our healthcare facility expertise and powerful delivery platform uniquely position us to partner with local healthcare providers like Lutheran and Exempla to develop a quality medical center in a timely manner."

Occupancy of the new outpatient facility is expected in first quarter of 2007 when the first phase of the building is complete. ELMC and its physician partners will be the first and primary tenants in the initial phase of a 125,000 square foot outpatient medical facility. Health Connect Properties is the leasing agent for the property.

For over a century, Exempla Lutheran Medical Center has advanced the art of healing and the science of medicine in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

For their leadership in providing quality health care, Lutheran’s nurses, physicians, staff and volunteers have been recognized seven times as one of the "Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation" by Solucient.

Lutheran and its sister hospitals, Exempla Saint Joseph Hospital and Exempla Good Samaritan Medical Center – in the enduring commitment to provide the highest standard of care – have made the Exempla Healthcare system the first in Colorado to receive accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.

Exempla Lutheran Medical Center’s legacy of trusted care is continued with the opening of Collier Hospice Center in July 2006, Colorado’s first free-standing hospice specifically designed for end-of-life care; and Exempla Lutheran Medical Center – Southwest, a new outpatient facility that will open in southwest Denver in 2007 to improve access to care for one of the fastest growing areas in Colorado.
