UCH nurse residency program among first to earn national accreditation

The University of Colorado Hospital’s priority on training new graduate is paying off. In addition to achieving an extremely low turnover rate of 1 percent for new graduate nurses, UCH is one of only two hospitals in the United States to receive national accreditation of its post-baccalaureate nurse residency program.

College of Nursing professor honored by University of Iowa Alumni Association

Colleen J. Goode, RN, PhD, FAAN, NEA-BC, professor in the University of Colorado College of Nursing, was recently presented with the University of Iowa (UI) Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award for Achievement. Presented annually since 1963, they are the UI Alumni Association's highest honor, recognizing the outstanding achievements and service of UI alumni and friends. The Distinguished Alumni Award for Achievement is given for significant accomplishments in business or professional life or for distinguished human service.

Partnership designed to enhance quality, safety and scope of services With more than 70 percent of Colorado counties classified as rural or frontier, the challenge to extend quality, accessible, affordable health care beyond city boundaries is growing. Centura Health and San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center (SLVRMC) have signed an affiliation and services agreement to coordinate efforts that expand the scope of health care services offered in the region and enhance the health status of the residents in the San Luis Valley. The partnership establishes an expanded system of care for SLVRMC, providing residents and health care providers greater access to Colorado’s largest health care network.

Orthopedic surgeon joins Banner Medical Group

Banner Mountain Vista Orthopaedic Medical Clinic welcomes a new orthopedic surgeon to the staff. Thomas Pazik, M.D., will begin seeing patients June 21 at the clinic, located at 5890 W. 13th St. Suite 101. He is relocating to Mountain Vista from another Greeley clinic. Dr Pazik completed medical school at University of Connecticut School of Medicine and an internship and residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He served on as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. Prior to settling in Greeley in 1995, he completed a fellowship in knee, arthroscopy and sports medicine at the Orthopaedic Speciality Hospital in Salt Lake City. Dr. Pazik is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and holds a Subspeciality Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He has been in practice since 1990 and has a special interest in orthopedic sports medicine, joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, knee and shoulder surgery.

Theodore Eickhoff, MD, presented the Merieux Award

AURORA, Colo. (June 8, 2010) Theodore Eickhoff, MD, professor emeritus in the Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, was presented the 2010 Charles Mérieux Award at the annual conference on vaccine research. The Mérieux Award is named in honor of Dr. Charles Mérieux, a French scientist and visionary who devoted his life to the prevention of infectious diseases through vaccines
